Ye are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14)

I realize I've posted on this topic a million times before (see I wanna be baptized, 212 Days, and Eternal Awesomeness) (okay, so maybe not quite a million, but close enough!), but today is the 14th of the month. Three guesses what that means!!

Two months left, guys! I get baptized in two months!! Well, actually that date might be slightly subject to change, as I have a friend leaving for a summer semester at BYU and another friend going on vacation right around that date, but I am determined to not push it back any farther. If anything, I'll move the date *up* :D

"Excited" does not even begin to describe it.

OH! Also guess what :)
My awesome neighbor (the one who's helping me with Personal Progress) is having the missionaries for dinner April 29, and my mom gave me permission to go! I requested off from work and everything! Now, here's what's even more exciting: there's a chance I might be able to start the missionary discussions that night. I'll need to get my mom's permission (haven't asked yet) cuz I won't be 18 by then, but it's not that far from my birthday, so it would make a nice "early birthday present" if she lets me :D

I don't think I've told this story on here before, so here goes: before I decided to get baptized, I almost had an opportunity to meet with the missionaries with my mom and sisters. We were headed into the public library to get some reading material for an upcoming vacation. The missionaries were headed the opposite way on the sidewalk, and they asked if we had some time to stop and chat. I wanted to talk to them - this was after I had started asking my friends questions, and not long before I would leave Catholicism (see conversion story here) - but we were running late. My mom, not unkindly, let them know that we didn't have time, and that was the end of it.

I have no way of knowing where those missionaries are now (except I do know they've gotta be home from their missions by now), and they have no way of knowing what happened to the family they met on the sidewalk outside the public library. But just so the universe knows, I'm getting baptized.

You never know what life experiences someone has had before you meet them, and you don't know what will happen to them after you part ways. You don't even know if they'll remember you. But just in case they do remember you, remember this:

What if they think of you when the missionaries knock on their door? What kind of people are these Mormons, anyway? Do they practice what they preach?

You, dear Mormon readers, are member missionaries whether you try to be or not. People watch you. Make sure you are a good example - not only for their sake, but for your own as well.

  1. Thank you for sharing this! Your faith and testimony are both so inspiring! I hope everything goes well with the dinner and possible missionary lessons! I've participated in several missionary discussions and they are amazing! Great thought about the influence we have on others, too whether we realize it or not. That is so true, and so important to keep in mind.

    Hugs!

    1. Once before, the missionaries came over to my house. One of my friends came, too, and my parents sat in and listened. They were teaching my parents more than me, and left a BOM and everything, but nothing came of it. My parents didn't ask them back (my mom thought she was being nice and letting them "practice" on us...), not cuz they didn't like the missionaries, but cuz my parents are content with being Catholic - they don't feel like anything is missing. It was amazing to have missionaries in my house, tho! :D

  2. Oh my gosh I absolutely love this post!!!!!! I think there are probably a lot of times in ou life when we are an example and we have no idea who we have helped. Your story kinda shows me that, yes, it is worth it to be an example of the believers. Thank you!

    1. At my school, the non members are watching the members more than the members know. It's kinda funny, me being a weird kind of "link" between the two groups and seeing how things like that happen :) People remember things that you do, and that's how they form an opinion of our faith!
