Pioneers

D'you know how, in the scriptures, they're always like "remember how the Lord brought our fathers out of captivity," "remember the captivity of our fathers," etc?

I was reading Alma 29 the other night, and came across these verses:
11 Yea, and I also remember the captivity of my fathers; for I surely do know that the Lord did deliver them out of bondage, and by this did establish his church; yea, the Lord God, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, did deliver them out of bondage.
12 Yea, I have always remembered the captivity of my fathers; and that same God who delivered them out of the hands of the Egyptians did deliver them out of bondage.
It made me think of the pioneers. They were held captive, persecuted, driven out, murdered, had their crops and homes and property and lives destroyed... Not all that different from various groups in the BOM being held captive, forced to labor and/or pay some sort of fine to whoever was in control. I'm thinking of a specific group right now, but I can't remember who it was cuz I don't know all the BOM stories as well as I'd like to.

Anywho.

It's certainly not quite the same, but I think we're still called to remember the hardships they went through for us, and also the mercy shown by our Heavenly Father in delivering them from these trials. They certainly had lessons to learn from these unfortunate circumstances, and we too can learn from their strength.

See this post for another discussion about pioneers!

Short post tonight, but I'm not sure what else to say about this :) I'm just proud of myself for finally writing something!
